A MESSAGE FROM
RICE PRESIDENT DAVID W. LEEBRON
Dear Rice Volunteers,
I want to express my gratitude for all that you do to advance our mission and strengthen our community. Your work as ambassadors, advocates and mentors extends our faculty and staff’s reach in recruiting and supporting students and sustains the culture of care that makes Rice so special.
Alumni and friends volunteer their time and expertise for a variety of reasons — to give back, to engage with the university or to reconnect with a formative (and often transformative) period in their lives. We love talking with volunteers about their experiences and the paths they have traveled both inside and outside of the hedges.
IT'S ALWAYS A GOOD TIME TO VOLUNTEER . . .
Rice volunteer opportunities come in all shapes and time requirements — from social media posts to classmate engagement to student mentoring. We are so grateful to all of our volunteers, whose time and talents contribute to a unique Rice experience.

VIRTUAL VOLUNTEERS
IN ACTION
It wasn’t only Rice classes that switched to a virtual format last spring. In the 2019-2020 academic year, our resourceful volunteers helped turn the challenge of social distancing into an opportunity by connecting the Rice community through virtual events. From Wellness Wednesdays to Brains in a Bar to regional socials, Owl volunteers are pulling together to share their expertise, their compassion and their friendship.
A FEW ADDITIONAL VOLUNTEER FACTS:
- Rice Alumni Volunteers for Admission (RAVA) was the largest volunteer group with 2,660 members.
- There are a total of 201 volunteer groups.
- At the Moody Center for the Arts, 16 volunteers welcomed 6,667 guests.
