When did you start volunteering for Rice? How long have you been a volunteer?

I began volunteering as a RAVA interviewer for high school seniors immediately after graduating from Rice. Since beginning medical school, I have hosted multiple cohorts of Owl Edge Externs to help current Rice students navigate the challenges of being a prospective medical student.

Why do you volunteer for Rice?

As a student, Rice was the ideal setting to help me develop into the best learner and person I can be. Many of my fondest memories occurred at Rice or with people I met at Rice. Since graduating, I knew I would put forth the effort to continually be connected to the Rice community as an alumnus.

What do you enjoy most about volunteering at Rice?

It is exciting first meeting freshmen and sophomores who are still discovering their passions. Then, a few years later, I feel privileged to meet with them again when they are applying to medical school. The applicants have transformed from a place of uncertainty to one of self-assurance. I look forward to seeing the impact they have in medical school and beyond!

What's a fun Rice fact about you?

One of my best friends that I met in medical school (Margaret Wang, Will Rice '20 -- featured in my picture) went to Rice! RFND!

What would you say to your fellow alumni/parents/friends to encourage them to volunteer for Rice?

There are opportunities to volunteer in all sorts of areas of interest, even if the opportunities are not explicitly listed. For example, I did not know if volunteering to host externs as a medical student would be possible, but the Center for Career Development was more than supportive to help meet and mentor Owls interested in pursuing medical school.
